Are you fucking kidding me? HMs have been a staple of the series and they just remove them to make way for more handholding via Pokémon transportation? Fuck SM. I'm cancelling my preorder. GF has clearly proven they don't give a shit anymore.

This. PokeRide includes everything good from HMs, barring the using your personal Pokemon to perform the move connection, but this is a moot point because with only a few exceptions you never actually saw your Pokemon perform the move.

Plus, it is more convenient and looks better and from what we have seen makes the game more involved and interesting.

The only thing wrong about removing HMs is that you are no longer using YOUR Pokemon, but some random one called from the wild.

The moves still exist. You have the freedom to use your whole team without having to accommodate for HMs (which would be even better if they adjusted the difficulty to compensate, which isn't going to happen).

Why is everything this company does so ass backwards?

The whole point of HMs was giving your Pokemon a purpose outside of battles. It added to the immersion.

Instead of just turning HMs into passive functions unlocked through badges, they add Ride Pokemon. Instead of making Ride Pokemon alternatives to HMs, they remove HMs altogether.

It's just a really ungraceful way to change it.

Your pokemon are there to battle with, they shouldn't compromise your severely limited moves and party size so you can get a picture of your pokemon to flash on the screen

I am against this also, but they can get rid of it without removing HMs. Just change them from moveslots to passive functions.

I'm an artist. Aesthetics has been something I've focused on, even as a little kid.
Don't get me wrong, I love not having to having to run to a pokemon center everytime I need to use fucking cut, and I love riding pokemon, and I really love that they made it a focus in the game, but the whole look makes me itchy.

You asked how they can have both interactive travel and HMs in one game. ORAS has both with Soar and Fly. This is literally a non-issue.

Anyway soar also letting you land at locations isn't hard to do at all, replicating racing around smashing rocks on tauros or doing jumps on sharpedo with hms is a different story. Plus they've replaced non-hm things with pokeride too.

They'd have to severely tone down what they do with pokeride just so that you can pretend the blob underneath you is your pokemon

Really? I was so happy to see its gone. But hold your breath, you might get your HM's back once we're out of Alola and no more Poke Ride will be available. Unless GF comes out with another feature to replace them akin to Poke Ride but calling them something else each time.

In all seriousness, I don't like using rental Pokemon to clear obstacles. As annoying as HMs were, at least you were using your own Pokemon. It made them a part of the adventure.

My solution to the HM problem would have been this;

- Species of Pokemon have an "innate ability" to use in the field. For example, all Scyther can cut down bushes, all Lapras can ferry people across the water, all Pidgeots can fly people to other towns, etc.
- However, to be able to command your Pokemon to use these moves, you must earn the right by collecting certain gym badges which you then present at "guild halls" where you are trained to get your Pokemon to cut, fly, surf, move boulders, smash rocks, etc.

Basically, make HMs a fifth move that doesn't take up a slot.

HMs sucked because the game was easy enough that they were just a chore to place on the team. Ride Pokemon are essentially the same damn thing, though. You just don't need to have an HM slave to move around anymore, is all. I leave EXP share off, by the way.
