The last time I played Crystal, I used this team:
Chikorita (planned to evolve it into Bayleef after the E4, tried to give it a gimmicky solar beam moveset and regretted it. Should have kept body slam...)
Xatu (absolutely horrible learnset, see for yourself, fly was his only decent move for the E4)
Miltank (pretty good with shadow ball, return, milk drink and earthquake, but still not good enough for the E4)
Corsola (very useful with surf and recover, but neutral hits killed it pretty easily)
Donphan (Fucking garbage until he evolved, and still not very good)
Growlithe (I wasn't planning to use this one, but I found it accidentally and decided to give it a chance. He was absolute crap. I gave him Dig for coverage, but still...)
Most of the TMs are fucking garbage until you reach Kanto. I ended up dropping the game without beating the E4.
Still my favorite game in the series and much better than the remakes. Especially the music and the graphics. They are absolutely perfect.
