In the DS games, they were essentially pointless since there were no unique rewards for beating them aside from new dungeons, and even then, seen one random dungeon, seen them all. I'd also curtail the partner's role ala Gates, or have two partners, or ditch the partner entirely. Didn't really like any of the partners, and while I'd say I liked the Gates partner the most out of the four, it was probably because he wasn't in my face all the time.
