It's fine if you have two games different games from the same generation (e.g. X and Alpha Sapphire).

>put Graveler on GTS and request a legendary Pokemon
>turn off game, switch to the other game, find your Graveler on the GTS and trade the legendary for it
>watch your Graveler evolve, then switch back to the first game
>accept your own legendary Pokemon
>use Pokemon Bank to move Pokemon around between games afterwards

The worst case scenario is that someone snipes your Pokemon that you want to evolve, but you still end up with a legendary so it's not that bad. The only time this may be an issue is if you want to evolve a shiny Pokemon.

I don't mind trade evolutions when the games first come out, it's fun to have an excuse to trade with friends.
It's when I'm replaying the game 5+ years later and everyone I know's sold there GBAs, and I've long ago lost my link cable anyway, that it gets annoying.

If you're an adult calling up someone at 3 in the morning you're the dick and GF has done nothing wrong. Like holy crap, you should get a job like the rest of us and just buy a second copy and system.
