Choice Band is pointless. With that crappy attack stat, there's no point running coverage unless it's 4x effective for a specific threat.

Use its bulk. Good STABs and a nice support movepool are right there for you.

There isn't a reason to use this if you aren't smashing through things with Liquidation, and the coverage helps against things that resist Liquidation but are weak to coverage. Latios, for example.

You're partially right.

252 HP/252 Atk Adamant is going to be the way to go with speed only being pulled out of HP to creep relevant threats. Band will be the way to go though since it gives Araquanid the most bang for its buck. You're almost never going to be using anything other than Liquidation.

Also what support movepool?

People are too quick to say that anything that is remotely viable is OU material.

OU has become a lot more selective over the years, and it takes Pokémon with REALLY high base stats, really good Abilities, and/or really good utility to be placed there.

And personally I don't see this Pokémon ranking that highly. I guess either NU or high PU for this thing, though I won't be surprised if it ends up mid-low RU.

It's probly RU material, and its best set might actually be using like 248HP/252Atk/8SpD Brave Nature Assault Vest/Splash Plate or something. You do Liquidation/Leech Life/Scald/[PJab/Crunch]. You mainly deal damage through Liquidation, but you can still deal with physical walls by using Scalds that hit as hard as (admittedly, uninvested) Azumarill Waterfalls. It's pretty hard to wall dual attacking stats that are that high in lower tiers.

Is right (except about Assault Vest, what the fuck anon, just use Life Orb). It'll do ok, but only having one actually strong attacking type (along with the above) will prevent it from reaching UU.

It MAY be too strong for RU though. BL2 possibly.

We never see either of those though, even though they're far more broken than Water Bubble, or any other Ability changing strategies, because they all suck miserably in Doubles.

It's better than Adaptability, but yeah.

It multiplies the BP of a Water Move by 2.

So Surf

The main problems are that Water's actually a low mid-tier offensive type, it doesn't affect any extra moves, it's actual offensive stats are just barely acceptable, and Water/Bug is pretty meh Offensive STAB coverage.

No, the problem is everything else. 70/50 Atk stat is perfectly fine to work with if all your moves have their BP doubled. Water only being doubled is unfortunate because Water isn't a good offensive type.

It's a decent neutral coverage move, but for actual offensive pressure - well, how often do you see actual sweepers with a Water Move?

Fire, Ice, Fighting, Ground, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, and Fairy are all better than it.

Flying and Ghost are arguably better offensive types within the current metagames.

It's about on par with Electric, Bug, Dark, and Steel (which would be better than it if it Steel didn't resist itself).

Water is within the bottom half of offensive types.

No, other anon isn't right - he has practically no support moves. Sticky Web WOULD have been nice if he got it. As is though, the only decent support moves he has are Scald (literally every other water type and more get this) and Toxic (literally every Pokemon gets this)

It's not touching OU, or even UU for that matter. Araquanid is a one-trick pony that can't touch anything that resists water. It has decent defenses, but low HP and speed will push him down.

Granted at least the ability saved it from being a johto shitmon but don't expect it to be a gamechanger.

That's very sad for it. I mean, since it's only utility is a very limited niche, it wouldn't be too much to just give him Aqua Jet, specially in nerf-priority Gen. Or at least a better utility movepool, Sticky Web at least, or some reliable recovery who knows.
At least it's actually more usable in-game now. I might find a place for it in my team.

Okay here's the difference

1. Slaking is fucking shit without memestrats. If you get your strat blocked you just wasted two party slots for it.

2. Wonderguard swapping/passing isn't actually possible, it's hard coded to Shedinja's weaknesses now.

Araquanid isn't actually bad on his own in doubles due to solid defenses mixed with solid offensive pressure against all non x4 water resist/water absorbers, especially in rain. Water bubble has both offensive and defensive uses and can be passed to multiple pokemon on the same team, potentially. And most of the pokemon you'd put bubble on like Gyarados are still useful without the swap.

The problem is water types don't usually have stats and coverage to make a good sweeper, water type is an amazing offensive typing look at Keldeo although it's fighting the water STAB is what it mainly spams and rain has been a major threat for years.
