Golduck doesn't actually counter primal groundon, it's just a meme.

Toxicroak has an actualy niche in fear nothing that Toxapex can do (and unlike Golduck in ubers it doesn't instantly die to everything else,) but then again so does a lot of stuff (Taunt+Nature's Madness Tapu Fini is much better and it can't be toxic'd/burned either.)

And Toxicroak will be able to force Toxapex out, scoring either Swords Dance or Substitute in the process and having the STAB to hit almost any incoming switch-in at least neutrally. Being able to hard counter the premier OU wall right now is huge.

That's already happening in showdown's pokebank server and it's really not that super amazing. It's just way too easy to bust through really bulky stall teams like that.

Toxapex is a good wall and all but it just has no offensive presence and completely relies on stat. There's too many ways to shut that down.

I think Marowak has just enough SDef and Toxapex's attacking stats are just shit enough that it needs 2 Scalds to kill A-Marowak anyway. At which point A-Marowak will outspeed it and kill it in 2 EQs/Bonerangs before it can.

You still haven't denied Dhelmise's use as a counter. And even then, Decid does have various things to do against Tox depending on sets. If Tox doesn't have Haze, he can set up swords and pass. If it does, he can set up Tailwind and Defog inevitable spikes then switch to something while Tox works to relay hazards or switch into something now slower than your mon.
I don't give a fuck which starter you chose, by the way.

This is what I was going to say. Magnezone is clearly an obvious counter, but too obvious. Toxapex will just trade out. I think a real counter would be a pokemon that will catch the toxapex user by surprise so they keep it in battle.
