But then you would have 25 clones for every single niche and even then min maxers would find ways to subvert that.
There is only so much you can do with that battlesystem.
And I'm sorry if your favourite critter was deemed unusable by the high ups at Smogon HQ but this happens in pretty much every competetive game with such an array of usable characters/strategies.
It's either powercreep, clones or only 3-4 usable new pokemon per gen, what else can they do?
Besides, like I said you can fool arround with the more gimmicky/mediocre ones just fine in the singleplayer department, including shit like BattleTree and earlier incarnations, it's only online against seriously competetive people where you get in trouble for not sticking to the meta, like literally everywhere else.
