Electivire got ice punch as an event in Pokemon Battle Revolution a whole 2-3 years before Platinum.

/vp/ didn't even exist in D/P meta for most people to experience these times. Simulators barely did either. Shoddybattle didn't exist until 2008 and Netbattle's fatal flaw was not updating for D/P.

Decidueye is in one of those bad situations where it's not good enough for OU due to its stat distribution but can't really drop to UU because Spirit Shackle is a pseudo-Shadow Tag. It could function well in UU with its resistances due to having ghost as a secondary typing and 2 immunities, allowing it to spin block as well. It also has support in form of Defog, Haze, Screens, Toxic and reliable recovery in Roost and Synthesis. It has priority in form of Suckerpunch but it's not worth it generally, since U-turn help much better in form of pivot and prevents trapping while Leaf Blade is a much stronger and it shares many common SE typings with Spirit Shackle anyway.
While it is much better than the other 2 starters in terms of what they can do, being stuck in BL means you're too weak for the tier you're allowed in but banned from the tier where it can function well. I do hope that they decide for it to be UU though, otherwise it'll be complete ass.

Primarina is literally taking UU by storm.

Once Incineroar gets Intimidate it'll be very viable in Doubles.

It's won me a few games.The top one works best, trapping in mons it can ahndle, swords dancing up, then sweeping or baton passing to something else. Toxapex dies to it unless it is a merciless build. If it has Haze, it slows things down, but it is just a struggle till the end.

Primarina actually turned out to be pretty good. 116 special attack and that typing really worked out well for it, though I think decidueye can work decently in OU. Incineroar is sadly the worst of the bunch, but once it gets intimidate it'll be a bit better.

It wasn't the Raticates and Persians. On Ula'ula Island the owl kept jobbing to sucker punches and other dark type moves from Team Skull Spinaraks and Guzma's Ariados. It having tons of weaknesses and specialised Grass/Ghost STABs also didn't help. It was also useless in the Elite Four where Primeape's pursuit took it out easily and Acerola trashed it with no problems. Eventually I got sick of it and replaced it with Mimikyu - haven't looked back since.

Incineroar has really good bulk with 95/90/90 backed by intimidate as a hidden ability as well as having access to a HP draining move in leech life and a way to bolster his bulk with bulk up and will-o-wisp.

Primarina's typing gives it a natural advantage being one of the best typings defensively as well as having fantastic special defense, access to the dual screens, and scald to help with its subpar physical defense.

Decidueye has...Roost and Synthesis backed by rather frail defenses in 78/75/100, barely edging out Incineroars base 90 special defense. Decidueye doesn't even have any options to boost its defenses unlike Incineroar.

The other two starters may not be seeing the OU tier anytime soon, but they're a hell of a lot more viable than Decidueye.

Bug may not hit a whole lot of things super effectively, but this gives Incineroar much more staying power than Decidueye. At least Incineroar has the defense to use it. Have fun using roost and synthesis with78/75/100 defenses.

Incineroar can also make proper use of the assault vest unlike Decidueye who LOSES those healing capabilites if you slap an assault vest on him.

Even with sucker punch, my owl was still too frail to sweep even when it was at higher levels than hers (lv 62). Leaf Blade and Sucker Punch never did enough to kill even after a crit which allowed her mons to land at least one heavy hit (it only took two to kill it). Meanwhile I gave my Mimikyu a Persim Berry, swords danced twice on the Sableye while tanking a hit with disguise and Confuse Ray and proceeded to sweep with ease (only taking damage from Drifblim and Frosslass). All this with it at level 46.
