XY and ORAS could trade with each other via GTS, right? No reason for that not to be a feature now, just limit new mons going back like they did for the trading system between GSC and RBY.
But honestly, from the way it's looking now it feels like they don't want you to bring your old mons to S/M. Maybe they'll open up bank, but they'll restrict trading between gen VII and previous gens. There's not even any Pokédex entries for the Island Scan mons. Wouldn't even be terrible - no more genies and all that.
