at least grass has decent offensive coverage, bug is good against psychic (shit because dark and ghost are incredibly spammable unlike bug, not to mention dark is actually immune to it), grass (pointless because ice is super common coverage and dark (outclassed by fairy since it actually resists it)

I'd personally swap fairy out for electric (bug zappers), maybe remove ghost and fighting.

I might also suggest maybe, just maybe bug-types being SE against ground or resistant since bugs tend to burrow into the dirt and make their homes there.

I always forget just how damn many things bug is weak to, some of them don't even make sense.

I know the whole "when you can catch the fly and your training is complete" shtick, but do you really need to base a weakness on that?
That's such a weak excuse to make it weak to fighting types, like if you're gonna take it that far then you might as well make electric weak to water since pouring a glass of water on my computers guts will break it.
And why ghost, what does ghosts have to do with bugs?
Why poison when so many bugs are poisonous?
Why fire when everything living hates being immolated?

It's no wonder there's so few good bug pokemon.
Before anything else, it's an issue of the type itself.
Without just removing some of the weaknesses all that can be done is add a secondary type to help remedy their weakness problem.

Bug types are underpowered because you're supposed to use them for the early game. That's why they evolve so quickly, that's why they're so prevelant in early routes.

We have this thread like twice a week and you faggots still refuse to accept this fact. An NPC literally explains to you when bug types are supposed to be used.

Honestly I think bug just needs to be completely reworked offensively. You could just remove a few of its resistances but it's a complete mess thematically and it would be better to start from scratch. A lot of its matchups are just leftovers from previous gens that just don't make much sense. Being strong against grass makes sense, but psychic? Dark? It can't even counter those types because it doesn't resist them. When you think of bugs you think of plagues ravaging entire populations, not some puny ass butterfly that's strong against plants, people with psychic powers and people that use dirty tactics.

The entire type isn't meant to be ditched entirely because it offers crucial balance offensively to dark and psychic types, even more so before fairy types existed. Fuck off.

Honestly, it's fine with Grass because Grass has always been meant to be the utility type, rather than an offensive type. That's why grass gets access to almost every status type and its own unique status that steals health. Bug doesn't have shit aside from some useful resistances.

Of course, neither of them are as fucked as Ice type is. Ice needs love.

Grass at least has very good resistances, and is Spore/Leech Seed immune.
