I swear that Slugma used to be a gen 3 pokemon. Now I checked and it was apparently introduced in gen 2.

Did we slide into a different timeline?

No, many Johto Pokemon are mistaken for gen 3 because of awful distribution in GSC that was fixed (at least partly) in RSE, so many people were finding mons such as skarmory for the first time in gen 3.

I've always remembered Slugma being gen 2, and don't remember people thinking they're gen 3 until recently. I'm pretty sure it's a case of universes colliding and I'm from the gen 2 verse.

This has been going on since gen 3 itself. Just like people thinking pikachu has a brown/black tip tail, it's a case of a detail that people have been getting wrong for years, but now that the Mandela effect meme has become prominent, people are blaming it instead.

While I don't disagree, are the games the sole exposition to pokemon for so many people? Pokemon was everywhere back then, there were many ways to know the gen 1 and 2 mons even without playing the games, like the anime.

Never thought certain Pokemon were introduced in certain generations, but I do find it interesting how Shellos and Gastrodon were originally going to be in Hoenn.

I was happy about them throwing back on that idea by putting Shellos on Hoenn's Route 103 by DexNav in ORAS.
