The problem with the final stages of the Alola starters is that they're fursonas.
They have distinguishing, human-like personality traits that transcend animal status. When I say that I want a Pokémon to be an animal, I don't mean that they shouldn't be objects (objectmons are fine) but that they should be primarily instinct-driven. Decidueye, Incineroar and Primarina have very clear human characteristics (and appearances) as opposed to this, hence why they are fursonas.
This is the root of the starter wars. People like them because they feel like they can "relate" to them and thus by defending the starter they like they are defending themselves as well.
I fucking hate it when people attribute "relatable" to something and like it because of that. I hope Game Freak goes back to making animalistic starters like Feraligatr and never does something like this again.
