I think the general use of it as an insult is just not wanting every pokemon's final form to be the same. I actually used to use that as a reason I preferred pokemon over digimon. Digimon almost always become furbait or catgirls as their top form. I liked that pokemon had some variety. Also prefer monster/animal designs in general.
Here though, I honestly just really adored the idea of finally getting a decent cute bug type, or bug type in general. Then it losing some of the bug was disappointing.
It's like... I don't know. Finally getting that dolphin pokemon some people want, the first form being similar to a babymon, so you hope for something a little cooler but still happy and appealing. Then it just suddenly becomes a full blown mermaid. Half the appeal is gone.
