Some foreign translations German actually lighten the situation by making this slight joke, the father's line is similar to Japanese/English and then he tacks on "...in a Pokemon battle" at the end. This is just censorship though, especially in Japanese it's clearly not between Pokemon.

Very similarly to the English version I think, though it's a bit more clear that the dad was beaten, physically, by Guzma. I don't think it's any clearer that Guzma himself is abused though.
