It's almost as if Gamefreak realizes that game balance is objectively more important than short term cashgrabs. Mega evolutions breaks the game balance. Z-moves do not. Thus Z-moves are better for business in the long term.

That fucking Z-Crystal will be banned from RU quickly. I doubt this alone will make Kommo-o viable in OU but at least it will have a better option.

Mixed or special sets have a lot of potential now since its Attack and Special Attack are also boosted.

But of course knowing that Fairies and Steels exist, you have to wait until the end of a game before you can use it.

...and yet, it fell to UU this gen due to powercreep. It was immediately quickbanned to BL, but it's presently considered C+ in the Smogon viability rankings. That's the same rank as Cofagrigus and Infernape. That's with its stats, movepool, and amazing ability, even using Z-move fuckery to help it out. I'm a big fan of Dragonite, and it hurts. This gen is a clusterfuck competitively.

Kommo-O also gets Overcoat. It would be a perfect Z-move user for Aurora Veil teams. Making it even more annoying to take out.

Kommo-o's design wasn't bad, but his function wasn't fun at all. It just got rocked too hard by fairy types

Now that he can pull a z-conversion porygon-z (but almost strictly better!) he might be fun to use

some people do make judgements on what Pokemon they like based on if they're fun to actually use

I love how garcucks pretend garchomp getting an utterly garbage mega when salamence and metagross got amazing ones is somehow a good thing for it. The only thing it means in practice is that its going to succumb to power creep faster than the other two. Because it's a loading issue.
Evoboost actually dumps everything besides Eevee, so it can load in the Eeveelutions without massive frame rate drops.
If a Z Move is slow that's entirely why, otherwise the 3DS would buckle under the weight of all the assets rendered.

Chomp's unrivaled speed tier and natural bulk is threatening enough though. If the metagame is going to be unfavorable to Chomp to the point that it's no longer a high priority threat the meta would be flooded with a bunch of absurdly broken shit.
