>>33368305>If the definition of contrarian is somebody that opposes popular opinionIt's not a "if". In the very image you posted of the definition said "a person who opposes or rejects popular opinion". Because what you're saying makes no sense.
Let's look at your "best" claim. Firstly, proving something is "best" requires something we can objectively judge. If we're looking at gameplay, normal or competitive, then calling Camerupt best or better than Zard is outright wrong. That's just pure delusion. If we're talking about design, that's the most subjective thing there is. Everyone has their own "best" Pokemon. By this logic, everyone but those who like Pikachu, Zard, Mewtwo, Greninja or Lucario are all contrarians. Because every thinks their favorite is the "best", and only those 7 are popular enough to compete with each other. Which would make every Aggron or Metagrossfag a contrarian.
Why is it so hard to understand that a contrarian is just someone in a position contrary to the popular one? Any normal person would understand by just reading the two words. Most people give exactly zero fucks about Granbull. Most don't even remember it exists. Now if someone comes claiming it is their favorite, that is a contrary position. An opposing position, as this person not only remember it, but also give many fucks about it. Thus, a contrarian.
By your definition, only rejection makes you a contrarian. By that definition, if someone came and said their favorite game in Mario series was Super Mario Bros. 2, NA version, they would not be a contrarian. Despite being in the contrary position to literally everyone else. If contrarian only applies to people rejecting the popular position, then what do you even call someone in an opposing position? Man-with-an-unpopular-opinion? Oppositer? No, they would be called a contrarian. That's literally the entire purpose of this word. That's what it was created to describe someone in an unpopular position.
