In the player's house in pallet town in the original games looking at the TV downstairs from the side would give the message "Oops wrong side" this message is still there in the remakes but to see it you need to walk into the wall behind the TV to see it rendering it impossible to view in normal gameplay.

It's because Gen I Psywave calculates with 0 as the lowest possible damage number for an opponent, but not for the player. If either game rolls 0 for Psywave damage for the opposite side, the other game can't do it because it's still calculating for the player on that side and not for the opponent. This discrepancy desyncs the game.

Basically the move has different rules for what it considers the player and the opponent.

Excadrill's steel worker iron head: 80*1.5*1.5=180

It's a multiplier of 2 against one of 2.25, same reason why marshadow preffers technician shadow sneak (90 bp) over adaptability shadow sneak (80 bp).

Not quite, it depends on how Steelworker calculates things. If it's a flat 1.5x and the original Steel STAB counts still, then it becomes 2.25x which is better than Adaptability's 2x

So this thread has made me want to do a science experiment.
So if I take every fully evolved pokemon in gen 1 including legendaries but not including alternate forms and average out their stats, your average gen 1 pokemon has these stats.
>Hp: 77
>Atk: 86
>Def: 78
>Sp atk: 79
>Sp def: 80
>Spd: 79
>Base total: 479

I'm going to do this for each generation. And compare everyone's stats together to see which generation had the strongest pokemon of each stat.
Also, when I say fully evolved, I mean fully evolved at the point in that generation, so golbat would be counted towards gen 1, crobat gen 2, etc etc. Alolan forms will also be counted when I get to gen 7. Should be interesting to see the results of this, keep the thread alive and I'll keep posting my results for each genm

When battling Trainers with 3D models in XY, the game also shows a victory animation from the protagonist as well after the opponent's loss animation. When you defeat Lysandre the second time, there's even a special victory animation, with the protagonist sighing with relief.

This is completely absent in ORAS and SM.

In Gen 1, Lance uses a Dragonite with the move Barrier, which it can't learn in any way even to this day.
Also, in Gen 2, Lance uses an Aerodactyl with the move Rock Slide, which it can't learn in that game.

Basculin was specifically added due to the lack of standard "fish" lines that inhabit seas. Samurott is a starter, Seismitoad is found in grass or marsh ponds, Simipour is a gift and rustling grass mon, Carracosta is a fossil, Keldeo is an event mon, Swanna flies over bridges, and that basically leaves Alomomola and Jellicent lines to be found in the seas. So they added Basculin.

Ball shaking in Gen 1 never changes in the same battle, unless it's the ball that'll catch the pokemon. Meaning that you can't have 5 misses, 5 cases of it shaking twice, and 1 ball that catches, you'll have 10 misses, and once the ball finally hits you'll catch it.

You're going to have to recalculate, I'm afraid. I was able to use Sky Forme Shaymin in the recent competition when using my Team 3 for a reason.

Gen 7 allows them to retain their Forme when deposited into the PC/Bank so you can use them in the teams which can ONLY use boxed Pokémon.

They now revert when you take them out after depositing them in Gen 7 rather than upon depositing them.

Actually you CAN evolve Eevee into Umbreon or Espeon in RSE. At the start of the game, the player sets the time on a clock, in which the game uses to evolve Eevee into Umbreon at 12:00 AM-11:59 AM, or Espeon at 12:00 PM-11:59 PM.

Except not every combination for Spinda is unique.

Their spots are calculated using the same data string as Wurmple's evolution, just using more values from the string. The data are used to calculate the size, shape and location of spots and it is possible for spots to overlap, giving visually identical Spindas generated with different combinations.

In Gen 1 the AI can't tell the difference between a status move and an attacking move, so if your Pokemon is weak to a certain type and the opponent has it, it will keep using it regardess of what kind of move it is. The most famous case would be a Poison type vs Lance's dragons, as they would endlessly spam Agility.

I do remember taking all the average speeds of new pokemon in Alola and found that they were on par with all previous generations.

It was a shortcut. I might be wrong but a lot of Japan's technological advancements came after WWII during an economic boom. I doubt that without this boom Japan would be a technology powerhouse able to produce the Gameboy. Without the Gameboy there would be no Pokemon.

I apologize to the people in this thread who wanted me to continue with my averaging of all the stats of every pokemon in every gen, I just started a new electrical class and got fucking killed with homework. Even my last electrical instructor thought it was ridiculous because my current one sucks at teaching the class. Literally went from 6 pm mountain time to just a few minutes ago doing fucking homework. I'm fucking exhausted and have class in the morning. Magearna cannot learn Toxic. Only a handful of pokemon that can learn TM moves can't learn Toxic, and all of them except Magearna have a tiny movepool consisting of eight moves at most. This has competitive ramifications for Magearna, as Toxic would be an excellent move for it to hit incoming Primal Groudon with.

Looks like it's slowly turning into a Mega Stone. This can happen with any Pokemon that gained a second ability in gen 4 or 5 if transferred from a game where it only had one ability, if its personality value (or PID) corresponds to its second ability. The Pokemon keeps its original ability when transferred, but evolving the Pokemon causes the game to assign the "correct" ability according to the PID, changing it to the new second ability.

This no longer happens in gen 6 or 7 where the PID is only tied to shininess. Pokemon transferred to Bank are locked to their current ability slot and will retain the ability in that slot through evolution (except in cases where the ability was replaced with a different one, as with Starly and Venipede's hidden ability in gen 6 and Gengar's regular ability in gen 7).
