Go out and talk to Japanese people, read books, read forum posts - whatever. Find as many instances of「期待しない」as you can and you'll find it is not used with ambiguity. When you actually speak to Japanese people and understand what is being said you'll grasp it. This is not something you can learn with Google translate or a vague understanding of the Japanese language.

There was no 'much', 'too' or 'anything'. It was not said in English, it was said in Japanese using a sentence which can only be taken one way. You wanting it to be ambiguous or to mean something else will not change that. It is what it is.
