Not to mention the ones that where true didn't even matter because in their respective gens they wher actually better looking or better created then the other two types. Here's how it goes.
>Charizards best of gen 1.>Typhlosion best of gen 2> sceptile and blaziken wher evenly popular, blaziken had a cute first stage but a ugly ass middle stage,Sceptile had a cool second stage but a ugly ass first stage but both final stages are cool.
Infernape won gen 4( mostly due to th ed anime shilling him so hard.)
Serperior or samurott won...gen...5. I think...I don't actually know. Who was the most popular gen 5 final stage again. The only thing I know is that it's not emboar.
Gen 6 was greninja. But mostly because of all that constant shilling. But even if they didn't do that I still think greninja would still be most popular.
Gen 7, it's Decidueye by a mile.
Most of the early gens it was usually the fire starter who won, but then or tied. GF might of noticed that so after gen 4. They started to give the other types a chance. In gen 5 it was samurott who was the cool one, in gen six it was greninja, in gen 7 we finally got another cool grass starter that isn't sceptile, no hate on sceptile, it's j uh st that when ever anyone argues with me that fire or water types are cooler then grass types, the only grass type that pops into my mind is sceptile. But at least now I can bring up Decidueye for backup.
