Also, there is nothing more to do than improve the posing for some mons. Although, if you were to do that, you'd have to also redo almost all of the animations in the game so they transition correctly.

Take more liberties with the models instead of trying to make them look as close to the official art as possible.
More detailed textures would be nice too. Plain colours work for sprites and official art but all of the models look like they're made of plastic. But I guess that's not really a problem with the models.

I don't need to change the model. It captures Regirock perfectly, imo. Posing need not apply here as it's just a render showing the textures. I could whip up a test render with posing applied, but as stated, posing doesn't apply here at all

I would say bare to none of the X/Y models have any flaws. Any flaw can be pointed at the other aspects of the visualization of the mon. Those being textures, posing and animation, the latter two tie into each other.

A sprite is a 2D representation of an object. A model is a 3D representation of an object. COLORS count as a part of that representation regardless of the number of dimensions. They're the same fucking thing.

Holy crap guys you're being mega autistic about this.

Mesh- contains the polygonal and vertex information. Also contains information about UV unwrapping for the engine to interpret and project textures on to. People sometimes call this a model.

Textures- the raster information that is interpreted by the engine to give color and detail. this usually contains base colours. It also contains stuff like cavity maps, AO, normal maps, roughness maps, etc. but game freak doesn't utilise those in their 3D games.

Shaders- the thing that compiles all the textures together to make them look more detailed. Think about buzzswoles glowing arms, that was achieved with a shader.

To answer OPs question, for the most part the Pokemon models are good. at 15k average polys they are at industry standard. Some meshes could be tweaked to have improved proportions, like blastoiste. I think the main thing to improve the way they look is to animate them more dynamically and make use of normal maps and AO. increasing the saturation in the shader wouldn't hurt too.

The models themselves are perfectly fine with one or two exceptions (Haxorus comes to mind), and the textures are all mostly fine.
The problems are the animations, which are largely incredibly stilted, minimal, and lifeless.

You're confusing poly count with complexity of geometry. Almost all of these models have superfluously high poly counts devoted to nothing but smoothing out primitive spheres and cones that make up the Pokemon's model. THIS is why the games have slowdown issues on the 3ds. That and poorly optimized smoke/flame effects.
Making implied 3-dimensional features into actual ones, instead of just the work of textures, wouldn't be a serious determent to the 3ds's performance if they just lowered the polycount to a reasonable amount.

Why couldn't they make it's torso angular (similar to the shoulders), instead of smoothed with a texture that gives the illusion of an angular torso? If it's about polygon count, I'm pretty sure flat surfaces use less than smooth, rounded ones.
