>>33954906I genuinely only base my liking on how good the design is or how much it appeals to me. Most of my faves are Pokemon that many would consider shitmons that kinda suck competitively, but i like their looks, like Golurk, Spinda, Arcanine, Sentret and Sigiliph.
The problem is that most Shillmons seem to be pretty run-of-the-mill in terms of design, so most don't appeal to me. Blaziken is a bit jarring but not particularly offensive. Charizard i kinda like, but it's a bit too bland and uninteresting for me. Lucario is one of the only Pokemon i actually hate and its design is a an unbelievably shitty letdown. Gengar is alright, but i think Haunter fits better as the archetypal ethereal ghost (because why would they even need legs?).
The only shillmon i ended up liking was Greninja, mostly because i like that they actually took a clever risk with the tonguescarf instead of just pulling a bland, bigger Frogadier, and it ended up giving it a ton of personality. I'd say i loved it since i first saw it.
As i mentioned, i was used to having shitmon bros that got virtually no recognition, so when Greninja became a Pokemon Icon i was very pleasantly surprised because i could actually find merchandise of my favorite pokemon and find people who shared my fave. I really don't see why people would hate their favorite pokemon being promoted. If anything, i wish the same would happen to the other pokemon i mentioned.
