Gold is only used for the GSC character since it's a bit uncertain if they're "the same" or not.
And nobody calls Hilda and Hilbert Black and White, those names are only used for the Special characters based on them.

Manga: Red - Gold - Ruby - Diamond - Black - Blake/Lack-Two Sun

i think the proper name is probably Elio since we also saw that name on the proper avatars in trailers and such but we dont get to see the alt characters unlike every other game so far

Game Freak and Pokemon Company referred to the Gen 2 Male Character as "Gold". But they call the Gen 4 protagonist "Hibiki/Ethan".

It's not because of the manga, Gold is Ethan.
It's a remake, but both are accurate, it just depends which version of him you want to refer to him as.

This excludes all non-remakes/sequels/third versions where they literally call him "GOLD".

You can't make this shit up and you can't deny it.
He's called Gold in Gen 2, but he's called Ethan in Gen 4 because it's the remake.
