I wonder how many people complaining about the game being easy looked up the major fights beforehand and planned out their team meticulously. USUM puts up a fair fight, if you go in blind you'll definitely wipe to at least a couple major fights if you're not exceeding the levels of the fights.

Professor Kukui literally gives you Smart Strike before you have to go to where Olivia is.

But they did. Which is why there are level restrictions on traded Pokemon. And the game needs to be balanced around non-traded Pokemon because you can't expect every player to trade Pokemon.

The key here is that the game at it's base is piss easy. In order to make the game more difficult you have to put restrictions on yourself, by turning off EXP share, releasing Pokémon that faint, not using items in battle. It's all done by you, challenging yourself. A good game has a decent difficulty curve, Pokémon does not unless you do the work yourself. Sun and Moon and well as USUM is worse considering if you play the game without restricting yourself it's a friggin cakewalk. Any normal gamer would prefer the game itself getting progressively harder, not have to come up with personal gimmicks to get a decent challenge. Pokémon has not been a difficult game since Black and White and probably will never be.

Truthfully though, one must remember that this game is for children and not experience RPG fans, I myself like Pokémon because of the mechanic to capture and train monsters, that's enough for me to ignore the blatant easiness of the games. Mind you most of the Digimon series provides the same feeling and a rather difficult gameplay which I find far more rewarding. In the end it comes down to the fact that the natural Pokémon games are too easy without self-imposed restrictions and the ones that do complain are RPG fans of a latter time where games get progressively harder. Pokémon games are designed so that only a small amount of grinding needs to be done to coast through the game.

Why are anti-challengemodefags this delusional and dishonest with themselves? How come Pokemon is the only game series where using personal handicaps is frowned apon, especially when without those said challenges, the same people bitch about how easy the games are too?
You don't see people whining about parry only challenges in Cuphead or no Power-ups challenges in Mario. But suggesting that you take off the EXP share or not use Z-moves/Megas/Gift legendaries gets you attacked by the same people that constantly whine about the games being to easy.

Using EXP share, refresh, etc. is a conscious decision to play on easy mode. If I play a Ys game, for example, on very easy mode, should I complain that the game is too easy? It's in the game after all; the devs intended for people to play it.

Your pokemon doing jack shit damage and the opponent nearly killing you at every move is not really fun desu.

I'm also limiting myself to not use more pokemon than my opponent against special trainers, 4vs4/5vs5/etc...winning by using more pokemon than them would be lame, dunno if others anons do that too. (Fuck you Guzma)

I use z moves too, because opponents can use them, or they have evs, they're often a bit overleveled, or they're totem with boost/sos, and my team is always fixed, so I think it was balanced...I always try to have interesting and balanced battles, I was mostly satisfied with what I had in SM/USM, often a lot of close battles.

The only battle that I considered really too easy was Acerola, her team is really shit, she really needed a Mimikyu and better movesets.

to be fair, there's a layer of mechanical skill that keeps those games difficult. RPGs dont have as much wiggle room so in simpler ones such as pokemon. If you use the best tools on hand, you will always come out on top. That's why some people impose challenges on themselves to keep the game interesting. All the same, pokemon isn't exactly the first place to look if you're looking a challenging game and homebrew rules shouldn't be the default.

The thing is ai opponents don’t have the best tools they could most of the time. That’s why people miss the battle frontier and pwt. They had computer controlled opponents who were on equal footing with the player. Simply putting together a “strong” team wasn’t enough for those areas

No, you won't. I've played RPGs that still managed to be difficult with all the tools. Pokemon is just terribly balanced.

I probably should've been more clear I meant specifically the simple rpgs like pokemon. Where the mechanics are just simply too simplified to really punish usage of any given tool. A strong tool is always a strong tool, at least as far as in-game/story pokemon is concerned.

Nah, I didn't grind to beat her. I grinded after her. I beat her by shoving a Roto-Boost up my Primarina's ass and sweeping. I just realized that I should probably get my Pokemon up a few levels after beating her. Only times I blacked out so far, I'm in middle of Rainbow Rocket arc, just beat both Maxie and Archie was twice against Hala and once against Smeargle dude, since then haven't blacked out.

Turn exp share off, use set, don't use refresh, etcetc. You use all levels of easy mode and then complain that the game is easy.
I know you must have trouble understanding this, since you are unable to tell that it's easy mode without the game explicitly telling you. Worry not. Gamefreak will be sure to add even more handholding in gen 8.

It's not built around that because it's meant to be the easy mode, giving you multiple extreme advantages. Really that simple.
