The vasaline effect and low resolution tv it was made for hid the awfulness of the gen 3/4 stuff in motion. Gen 1/2 models still look like garbage though.

The Gen 4 Pokemon models looked fine.

However, the Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon models were recycled from the Stadium games (N64), and the Gen 3 Pokemon were recycled from Colosseum (Gamecube), so they looked like shit compared to the Gen 4 Pokemon who had new models made for the Wii.

Pretty sure Creatures Inc. was still in charge of models back then, so it was Creatures that was being lazy with the models until Gen 6 forced them to make new ones for every Pokemon.

The models are great, the thing is they're too complicated and poorly optimized for 3ds hardware. That is, there's way too fucking many unnecessary polygons and it's why the games can't handle shit without framedrops.

Oh no, they're really awful. Look up Nidoking or Ninetales some time, they're just Stadium 2's models but prettied up.

At least the Gamecube games took the ugly graphics and made the Pokemon look more active during battles. PBR is like adding shiny paint to an old car.

Bullshit, XY/ORAS had barely any lag even during shit like Triple Battles, it wasn't until SM came around all poorly optimized and shit that we had the games chugging so bad even the menus started lagging in goddamn Double Battles.
