I feel part of their laziness now is that they put a lot more time into the overwold because it’s modeled now, I would imagine someone could sprite a whole town in a day, leaving time to put in other features

Pokémon isn’t meant to always be in sprites but I think they jumped to 3D too soon, I feel a lot of sprite heavy franchises like Pokémon and Kirby were pressured in jumping to 3D because t was the “3DS”

They should've found a middle ground. Gen V was starting to blend 3D and 2D. Hell, even Gen IV was doing that. They should've updated Gen V's visual aesthetic, but instead of sprites use low-poly 3D models for battles.

Gen V looked like shit. The 2.5D overworld was even more obnoxious than it was in gen IV. It didn't look good at all.
Literally the only thing gen V has over VI aesthetically is better framerate.

Gen 5 had the best art style in the series IMO. You can say what you want about the story and new mons, but that was the peak of the 2d sprite days. Battle animations were cool too.

It continued that horrible trend of gen IV with the 2.5D overworld.
All characters just become distorted when you move up and down. It doesn't look good at all.
On top of that you have buildings that are just the simplest fucking 3D models imaginable. At that point they could have achieved great things with spritework and made an unique style for the game, but instead we get these basic ass models.
I refuse to believe anyone liking gen V's aesthetic actually likes sprites.

I don't really disagree, but a lot of the animated gen V spirtes looked awkward as fuck too. Only static sprites have worked as far as "interesting" poses go.
As for the saturation that's just them being closer to the actual artwork. A lot of gen VI models have more vibrant textures because the art is more vibrant.

I don't know what the fuck "weird animations" means, but the lack of saturation was a stylistic choice to have models look closer to older artwork.

We're moving to the Switch now, which is significantly stronger than the 3DS.
As for them lacking detail that's just not true. They have a very high polygon count for their current usage. Saturation is to mimic the art.
Not sure what you're reffering to with animations and them being far between. The standby loop for most are very short, and if you're referring to animations whn the pokémon is doing moves then I don't get what you mean by "far between" at all. Move animations tend to be pretty good too.

Disagree. I felt that the 3ds era was mediocre overall but the one thing I like about it is the new battle related mechanics it introduced, specifically the Fairy type, Regional forms, Ultra Beasts, and of course Megas.

Gen III certainly looked better for its time and ran at a silkysmooth 60fps and had next to no loading screens.
The point however was to make the game in pure 2D and disregard all the 3D elements mixed in in IV and VI. Not to make it exactly like gen III.

Have you seen a pop up book before? Are you familiar with how they simulate depth? I've provided several examples of the basic style, I don't know what you don't understand. Any game in this style with the 3DS' 3d on would look like a pop up book. It's not hard to understand. In fact, I know this has been done a couple times already on the 3DS I'm just spacing the IPs

The thing is that it wouldn't work if you're comparing to gen V. Outside of characters, the overworld is almost exclusively made out of models. The models have literal depth, a strictly layered "pop-out book" like representation in 3D wouldn't work.

The lack of textures on most Pokémon is what really ruins them for me. I know they wanted to make them as close to the official art as possible, and it's not noticeable on sprites, but it really has a big impact on how the models look.
