I think the backlash for them being too similar is ridiculous, akin to someone hating Mew because it looked like a wimpy Mewtwo (w/ dex and official release order kept in mind here) They are clearly related, look similar design wise and are almost unanimously anthropomorphic across all depictions. It would have been a grave mistake to limit this trio to their Incarnate forms or their Therian forms, excluding the Incarnate form would have been the the greater loss
Their powers being a bit different from IRL lore is a personal peeve but can be overlooked when factoring in that biologically types explain these powers for this homage
