meh, it's only really climactic in context. Red was the OG champion that people cared about, because Red was your player avatar in the prequel. Fighting Red as Gold had weight because you as a player had this context going in. Play Gold alone in a vacuum and he's just a literal who 13 year old on a mountain in the middle of nowhere with a high level team. And even though he was the old champion in the story, he's still just "a" champion. We have over a dozen confirmed capable champions at this point, it's not a special distinction anymore.

My personal favorite has got to be the Wally fight in omega/alpha. Seeing this little punk all grown up and ready fight at the end of my journey, right before the League. The beautiful arena and the banging music just sent chills down my spine the first time.
