My headcannon has Gold up there in only one of three timelines.

Cris and Lyra are up there in the Crystal and HG/SS timelines.

So in 2/3 Universes Red is dethroned by a little girl.

They gave Red the level advantage the game right after. It's not like levels are indicative of anything regardless, what matters are feats and Barry barely has anything relative to the actual PCs.

Not him, but that's debatable. Some people have argued that Lucas is the most powerful because he "saved the galaxy" even though all he had to do to do it was fight a team similar in power to the teams all the other protagonists had to fight.

That being said, I think Hilbert, X, Sun, and Brendan are the strongest on account of canonically having legends.

Technically speaking, Lucas/Dawn aren't really the ones who did that. Dialga/Palkia are stopped by the pixies (and then they "test" the protags so power level wise it's not clear what's going on) and Giratina pulls a Fug in Plat.

Is Yellow canon since Red has Pikachu and all three Kanto starters? If that's the case, wouldn't Crystal be cannon, meaning Gold/Ethan should have Suicune, Entei, Raikou, and Ho-oh? Or are none of the other player characters canon since they never appear outside their respective games?
