Honestly the Kalos E4 would've been a lot better if any of them had done something in-story. Granted, no other E4 really does anything except maybe Alola, but Kalos suffered hardcore from pacing toward the end, so the E4 felt like a paint by numbers E4 more than anything. I remember first getting there feeling weirded out that I was at the E4 already. Siebold was a boring chef in a fucking France region, he could've easily had his own restaurant somewhere. Wikstrom was a Knight in a region ripe with possible lore and history, Drasna was eh. she could've been something if her comrades weren't as forgettable as her. Malva pissed me off the most. Being a Team Flare member, was overshadowed by the fact that you never really fought or saw her in Flare garb. I didn't even recognize her as being the Holo-caster news Reporter because it was so forgettable. She could've easily been a plot point about corruption in the Kalos news, which is how Lysandre slid by without being caught as a villain for so long. And if you even battled her once or twice, it would've made seeing her in the E4 and the anger she felt toward you a lot more justified, and could've made for a much more intense fight than the fucking weatherwoman being angry at you "because she was a terrorist, by the way". XY took 3 and a half years to make, and it felt like GF realized once they ported the Pokemon models to 3ds, they forgot to write a story and just hobbled one together last second.
tl;dr, gen 6's E4 was so much wasted potential
