None of the #1s are surprising. Grass has relatively few popular pokemon, and sceptile is one of the oldest and most popular of those. Charizard is charizard, I'm only surprised there isn't a bigger gap between it and arcanine. Greninja is greninja.
The #2s are more surprising. Decidueye really doesn't get much love at all. Arcanine is popular, sure, but enough to even scrape at the bottom of charizard tier? No way. And milotic? What?
I recall seeing the results were taken from like the first 300-400 users and never updated. That was months ago. A bigger sample size would probably fix some of the weirdness.

This, Grass has next to nothing going for it since it's a pain to use ingame, it's """"great resists""""" are totally overshadowed by it's common weaknesses, and Grass Pokemon consistently have no fucking moves. Look at your average Grass mon, it only learns Grass type attacks, Normal type attacks and whatever it's secondary STAB gives it.

If Grass types had access to Power Gem, Earth Power and some Electric move on the same level as Water types learning Ice Beam, Grass types would be significantly less shit.

More like ~7000+, this website was all over every form of social media before people even knew it was a poll. It's not perfect but it's a good indicator as to what's relatively popular.

I remember exactly how it went, these graphs started appearing online, spread everywhere, had tons of threads about it on /vp/, as well as Twitter, so naturally they were likely on Reddit too, and after a good 2 weeks of this, THEN the poll came out. You're acting like the poll dropped after 2 days or something. Even if they released an updated one, the results would likely be the same with only percentages altered.

Arcanine has always been stupidly popular, mostly thanks to being the only real "Dog" in Gen I. In my experience, girls especially seem to love the damn thing.

The reason grass is unpopular is because the type's advantages are geared towards defensive play- so many of their moves are status, healing, or drains. Unfortunately, defensive Pokemon aren't super useful ingame because of defensive pokemon in general not being very useful or rewarding
