They're not as good, but certainly not unplayable. A lot of people hate Gates to Infinity, but I enjoyed it. Super, on the other hand, I couldn't bring myself to finish. But a lot of people say if you make it through the first half or so it gets much better. They're both at least worth a look, just don't expect too much.

Adventure Squad is a Japanese only watered down Sky.
Gates to Infinity lacks content and is way too easy (even for PMD standards). However, it has some interesting mechanics, and the best story and soundtrack in the series.
Super has good gameplay and half of a good story. I'll let you decide which half is the good one.

Depends on what you're looking for.
If you wanna have a nice story and don't care much about having a challenge at all, then you're gonna have fun playing Gates, if you don't care that much about the story and just want to be able to play as your bro who hopefully isn't a legendary in a somewhat challenging game, then you might enjoy super

You should do something with all those seeds. Whenever I found my plain seeds stacking up in PSMD, I always went to Pelipper Island and visited an easy dungeon with a Pokemon who knows Recycle, so I could turn them into better items without fear of dying. I also always brought a Pokemon with Payday, so I could get a bit of extra money for my trouble.

I think it was in the item chest were you keep all of your shit that there's an option to turn 100 of an item into a gold bar, i think this work with stones and wands too, so if you're really in need of one last gold bar to get X item you can do that

If it's your first, pick whatever you feel like. Don't worry about optimization. I would recommend playing other PMD games before Super, but do whatever you want. Be warned, Super's story is quite childish.

How come they wall off evolution till post game in these games? I get that they want people to further appreciate the earlier evolutions but what if I really like a mid stage evo, why do I gotta get so far just to evolve someone? I can understand the starters needing to wait, but everyone else too? And to top it off You don't even get to evolve with the starters until you beat the main game and then do even more extra stuff.

The mystery dungeon games are notoriously hard to do romhacks for, since the code is a gigantic house of cards that collapses if you move anything. I'm kind of amazed anyone got a randomizer working.

Not really, the reason why they probably they don't let us evolve earlier is because it would take too much work now that the games are in 3D and there are cutscenes, just look at gates and how many dynamic cutscenes it had with only 5 playable characters, and then in super we got 20 playable characters but fewer dynamic cutscenes, if they allowed mid evos they would need to make cutscenes for at least 40 pokemon if not 60 if they were to include more non starters.
Though i would love if they did this, it's kinda unbelievable to see 2 starter pokemon slap around legendaries, at least in the 3DS games they made them fight less and have some other bullshit involve to make it more believable, like the scarfs

Sick of waiting for a new PMD? Want to give something similar a try, made by the same company?
Shiren the Wanderer for Wii's a perfect fit. Unlike the past Shiren games, your level doesn't reset upon death, meaning it's much more forgiving like PMD's main game is. It's also much more plot heavy than the past entries, so it could scratch that plot itch though you're better off playing Chunsoft's VNs if you play these games for the story.

If you have USB Loader installed on the Wii, it should be pretty easy to get this up and running. Wii U users can convert it into a Virtual Console game and play it through that.

Yeah, right now I'm replaying Red Rescue. It's postgame now and I've basically ditched my partner for the Absol you get after beating Articuno. I kinda feel bad about it, but the coverage is so much better.

Has anyone here bothered with doing Destiny Tower-related strategies? Japanese players have compiled their own thorough DT guide, tier list and proper information on things to watch out for, but I never see that sort of thing here. It'd be nice to try to figure out ways to master the dungeon or beat it with mons that are normally pretty weak.
Feels like the closest there is here is the ZIS guide made by one dedicated guy, which is nice and all, but if more people worked together it'd make things much more complete.

Pokemon or not, it's closer to the DS games than Gates to Incinerate and Super, surprisingly. I'd say it's pretty much a better Wii PMD than the Wiiware entries, which got butchered by the Rumble visuals and splitting up the game into three versions, meaning 2/3 of the dungeon listings are clones of one another from a difficulty standpoint rather than being a natural progression, and making teambuilding in each of them an absolute hassle.

One of the worst things about Super is how utterly useless throwing items are. For some reason they gave them basically a 100% item catch chance, meaning the rocks and sticks are only good for swapping for gold

Gates was bad, Only 150 pokemon and the gameplay wasn't really fleshed out. Story was meh to.

Super is better. Probably the most content filled PMD with the most dungeons and quests. The gameplay was decent and the Looplet+Emera added a new layer of strategy and management into the games. Story was good and had some intneresting twists, but took to long to enroll. Also the largest set of starters and all known pokemon until then.
I found it to be good.

Only plebs thought the story of Super got better when they reached Lively Town, while those with true patrician taste enjoyed the comfy unique kindergarten Persona aspect of Serene Village with all of the superior characters.

Everything went to shit when the game tried to become Explorers 2.0
