Everyone obsessed with fitting them into "reality" and ignoring the fact that they're fucking magic monsters. Chikorita is a literal plant monster. It probably photosynthesizes. Maybe complimenting that with foraging. Pokemon don't all have to be predatory just so it's "realistic".
And I'm not advocating cuteness for the sake of it, but Chikorita IS cute. It's realistic interpretation should be cute too, but in general

I'm probably only getting this worked up about this because of the inevitability of "realistic" pokemon hitting cinema. I imagine Detective Pikachu will remain cartoony, but I'm still nervous. I really really don't want crab magnemites. /blogpost
