Personally, I can't bring myself to name a mon I know nothing about when I catch it, nature or the flavour text

The only time i ever nicknamed my pokemon was in pokemon black because i was playing the japanese version and didnt know their official names yet, so i just called them normal names like Peter, Fred, Suzie.

The one's I'm planning on using, yes. Usually by a theme because it makes naming easier and gives a nice sense of cohesion.

I usually nickname mine a shorter version of their Japanese name. Like I named my flaffy, 'Moko-tan' since it's Japanese name is Mokoko

I try to name all the monsters I catch. The names end up being dumb wordplay most of the time.

Torterror is one of the nicknames I'm most proud of. I usually end up just going with something simple such as my Rhyhorn in red is currently named "Juju". But I'll go for a witty name when I came.

I only name them when I have a specific theme for my team. I'm doing a Bobobo run on my OR and I named my Mudkip Tokoroten and my Shroomish Hanpen, for example.

Only when Nuzlocking which is most of the time nowadays.
Most of the time they are themed around the starter's nickname. Last playthrough it was Chinese names (Tepig). No, it wasn't Zhu Bajie.

I name every pokemon I get, I think it looks careless when you don't nickname them. Sometimes it's annoying to think of a name but I really like having ones that I like with cool nicknames. And if you're wondering why I nickname the ones I don't use that's because if I want to wondertrade them it's so much better to get a pokemon with a cool nickname over wondertrade then a dumb ass non-nicknamed generic pokemon. It kind of gives them personality you know?

I name my battle team Pokemon after characters from the last game I played or sometimes the last book I read. Like right now in my US run I have a bunch of Pokemon named after Dishonored 2 characters.

In-universe trainers are known to nickname their Pokemon, though. Every in-game trade has a nicknamed Pokemon, all contest trainers have named Pokemon, and a few instances of standard NPCs with named Pokemon also appear, like Jasmine's Amphy or the Rustboro couple's Pekachu.
The reason why you don't see nicknames in battle is because it doesn't matter there, and in that format you likely wouldn't care about what your enemy names their mon. It's also why Battle Spot battles have no nicknames.

I have a Lunala named Nyx, a Necrozma named Halel, and a Necrozma named Ohr Ein Sof to name a few, how is that disrespectful? if I had a Necrozma that I would keep in base forme, I would have named him Lucifuge

I usually do. Up until Gen 6, I didn't have a real theme for how I named them. In the Gen 6 games, I mostly used mecha character names. I didn't nickname any mons in my Moon run, but in my Ultra Sun run, I used nicknames based on Arc System Works characters, as part of a challenge run.

I recently did a Alpha Sapphire nuzlocke where I nicknamed my pokemon off of yugioh zexal NUMBER cards and now I'm doing White 2 with U.S. state names.

Back when I first played, I only nicknamed the ones I deemed "special" but I ended up getting in the habit of naming my mons, only ones I didn't name were dupes or trash mons

Yeah! I nickname just about every Pokemon I catch. The only ones I don't name are the ones I plan on trading away.

When a Pokemon doesn't have a nickname, I usually don't really feel as attached to them since I just see them as a generic member of their species. And coming up with nicknames is more fun for me, anyway.
