Why does every pokemon have to look threatening? Some are just cute, like starters and early route bugs/bird/mammals.

Garbodar is a classic garbage monster kaiju. Klefki is a interpretation of a fairy, but instead of stealing shiny things it steals keys.

The starters say it all. Kanto: kaiju. Alola: fursuits. Enough said. That’s not to say there aren’t plenty of good Pokémon lately, it’s really the only thing the franchise has left is monster designs. But just look at the sheer amount of cancerously designed legends does that came out this gen. It’s like genies x1,000. The designs are staying consistently pretty good, but the amount of stinkers has shot up and the tone of the designs are just becoming more friendly and plastic in general.
