My friend had one of those Pokédex toys where you could actually look shit up, and he lost his. A week prior, after a month and a half or so of saving on my mother's part - because growing up my family was dirt fucking poor - my mother had bought me (and my brother) one and they claimed I'd stolen his when they found out and wouldn't let him have anything to do with me anymore because I wouldn't give mine to them for him.
We still talked at school and shit because he knew I didn't, obviously (and only found it hilarious I'd called his father a retard to his face when he asked that of me - thanks to another incident, I know he was only doing it because he was too pussy to tell his wife no), but it wasn't the same when we couldn't reasonably hang out outside of school.
Especially with him being a year ahead of me meaning there was a time shortly after which saw our schools be almost half an hour drive apart.
Could've snuck around, I'm sure but as a literally autistic fuck that would've just been too much mentally draining work when there was an option to go deeper into fictional worlds of my own creation and that of others and not have to deal with morons.
Haven't had a friend in general since about 2003 when a group of us slowly broke apart, heading towards our own paths after school already.
