Random encounters are tedious and annoying bullshit. I've wanted them removed for a long time and will be glad if this aspect of LGPE is incorporated into Gen 8.

I dropped Pokémon at XY. Then I hacked my 3DS to see what I missed. Not much, apparently. If I wasn't gifted Moon I probably wouldn't have bothered.

I can skip another gen. There's always older game replays, romhacks, and ... you know, other real jRPGs that don't assume I'm a retard phone obsessed child. Octopath Traveler looks good.

Sure, and it will be much more fun if you can actually choose to engage the Pokémon you want to catch, and ignore the ones you aren't interested in or have already. This gives the player more agency, which makes for better gameplay. As opposed to walking in circles in a patch of grass and rolling the dice dozens of times until the right monster pops up.

You can still do that
The only difference is that now you don't need to be stopped every corner to fight Rattata/Pidgey lv 5 #100
It seems more fun actually since now you can see the pokemon roaming around and it gives more life to the overworld

Like if there's one pokemon each of everything you can catch in the route roaming around and you just have to hunt it down, maybe it's just hiding somewhere in the route for the 'rarer' pokemon
Or
You need to enter and exit the area until you see that pokemon with 1% chance of appearing

Honestly i'd not mind if it was like the first scenario

i dont have a problem with taking away the RNG factor involved in encounters, what im pissed about is literally taking all the fun away of catching a pokemon by just making it a fucking "chuck the ball till it enters" minigame, granted, chatching a legendary is mostly that but atleast its trying to be hard

If i can see who's in the grass or in the cave no surprise effect. And you'll never get to experience of finding a shiny by chance either.

One of the things making an RPG an RPG is wild random encounters. Sure, it can be annoying at times but guess what? Repels exist for a reason.

I would be done if we get Gen 7 again. This is Game Freak’s opportunity to ditch all this unnecessary dumbing down of overworld design, battles and story railroading. To have all of these changes be focused on LGPE for that crowd and have the following game be the core game for more experienced players.
But of course my expectations would be too high to return to pre-Gen 6 game design, because why would GF ditch their LGPE crowd as soon as they got it?

I switched to this since USUM. Not even in my wildest dreams did I expect GF to fuck up so bad they'd make USUM look good by comparison, especially since the Switch has this thing where even series and developers that were in a bad spot came out very strong in their Switch games. I guess Zelda being so dramatically saved from irrelevance had some kind of karmic cost to it and Pokemon had to take the hit.

I'm playing Blaze Black 2 right now and loving it, feels good to be reminded of why I like these games in the first place even if GF is heading straight in the other direction and has a Masuda that is completely deluded into thinking his insane decisions are saving the franchise. Worst part is the brand fucking sells itself so he won't get basic market feedback to tell him he's wrong until it's too late to go back and the brand is dead.
