I mentioned the standard Joycons being $60 and the Pokewalker, which was originally bundled free for HGSS, since the Pokeball Plus is a far worse version of both combined that is barely cheaper. You are better off just taping a Pokewalker to a Joycon.

XY actually had way less Kanto References than BW. Most of the Gen 5 roster is filled with counterparts to Gen 1 Pokemon, which alone has more references to Kanto than XY. XY just makes a bunch of Megas, gives you a Kanto starter, and references Blue once.

Always hated this argument since only those who have played all games up to that point would've noticed that pattern, while those only playing or caring about Gen I would consider them all new species and lament the absence of mons from earlier gens (ie Gen I). It had counterparts (which made sense since it was kind of a soft reboot) but it wasn't so in your face. Actually it was pretty damn subtle and even if you knew Kanto to a T you were likely to miss many references.
Although even with its Viridian Forest, its Kanto starters and its Kanto legendaries, XY wasn't nearly as overbearing with Kanto as SM was. Plus it was the first time they were doing stuff like that so it gets more of a pass.

more importantly, Unova is in America, while the previous four games all take place in Japan. having entirely different fauna actually made a lot of sense, and it's a shame they didn't stick to it.

BW could have been the beginning of a series of multiple pokemon games taking place in America, like how Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh built upon the foundation of Kanto for Japan.

The "counterparts" are an appealing way of doing it because there's nothing about it which makes Unova stand less on its own. Compare Swoobat and Zubat or Sawk/Throh and Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan and really where is the similarity there beyond "it's a bat you encounter in caves a lot" and "it's a pair of martial artists"? They're distinct Pokemon that are distinctly Unovan while playing with the RBY dex and the standard formula. Additionally Unovan Pokemon are showcased proudly all over BW, you can't ignore Unova's Pokemon, you're obliged to build a bond with them.

Whereas inserting a Kanto or Lucario and making it the centerpiece of XY does NOT let Kalos' Pokemon stand on their own two feet, instead Kalos dex (which has AMAZING designs) is treated without confidence and we got lots of the most famous shillmons in the place of where Greninja/Delphox/Chesnaught/Aegislash/Dragalge etc should have been showcased for their debut.

Well, two out of three do take place in America technically. Plus those not from America wouldn't be too happy about the series moving over there.

In the end making a full brand new 150 pokédex was too taxing and a big part suffered from it, specially when forcing "counterparts". Plus putting in time and effort creating a LOT of creatures is a waste, since they also have to share the brand's space with the older ones so they can barely get much focus if at all.

Sadly the only way I could see it happening is to give them some competition. Of course given Nintendo's overall attitude towards competitors (i.e. pretending they do even exist) it's unlikely any other studio would be able to catch GF's attention even if this hypothical pokemon clone was sucessful.

The only way I could see it happening is if Nintendo themselves (for some reason) made a Mon series that ended up being better received. That would get definitely GF off their asses if daddy Nintendo didn't need them for a successful mascot series.

Trubbish and Garbodor are quite a bit different from Grimer and Muk, though.

Timburr and Gurdurr are rad as fuck and while they're definitely echoes of the "fighting type strongman" archetype, they're definitely super distinct.

Jap children found Sinnoh's map confusing and frequently got lost in DPPt. That's why Gen 5 and future gens went in a more linear direction.

Wrong. That's just a meme that's going on. Nintendo are majority owners. The reason they don't bother with Gamefreak is because Pokemon sells extremely well.
Just look at last year's E3 for proof. Gamefreak doesn't like to show or announce games so early in development, but it looks like Nintendo forced them too.

Not just Nintendo, but the shareholders for both Nintendo and GameFreak, too.
Pokemon's such a mighty brand that they wholly expect GameFreak to have a game prepared for Switch ASAP, but they've also been pressuring them to keep up yearly releases to keep making bank when they've barely had any time at all to focus on Switch Development on a grander scale than LGPE (ergo, the 2019 games) because they've had to juggle between SM, Pokemon Quest, overseeing the B Team on ORAS and USUM and everyone who's making spinoffs, and their Non-Pokemon Games ever since XY completed development.
And judging from LGPE's art style, chibi models and stripped mechanics, it was most likely going to be a 3DS spinoff title that got pushed over to Switch and labelled "mainline" for the sole purpose of appeasing shareholders, while they told GameFreak to do Virtual Console Releases of RBY for 3DS instead.

1, 2, Switch was a launch title when there was like 12 games to play. What will there be when Trash Go releases? 1200? Including a couple dozen other JRPGs which are way better without even considering other genres.

If you look at the numbers for the 3DS they've got 22 - 33% attachment rates.

That's maybe 4 million on 20 million Switches.

But even that's unlikely to happen when you consider they specifically released a cheaper version with X/Y. No such thing is happening for the Switch.

Nor does it have to thanks to how the Switch works. One copy of the game can do everyone since saves are system side now. You don't NEED to pick up more than one copy of a game on Switch to have multiple saves, you just need to start an additional profile.

We all know masuda is all about dumbing down the games to the casual market/mobile game players, so they turn the experience into fun sized bits for the ADHD kids. Hence, the whole "Islands" thing, and cutscenes everywhere ect.

3DS is also pretty limiting, it could barely handle triple battles and rotation battles, so they got removed in gen 7, and you see popins all the time(The big city on the first island is the perfect example, try walking in a straight line to the pokemon center)

I hope they can squeeze out more out of the switch, or just go back to using sprites again, cause if let's go is the future of the franchise, oh boy

Sure there were more pokemon in the overworld, but the overworld itself was shit.
Dividing it into islands made everything feel small, especially because you can't explore between the islands. All the dungeons were shallow and linear too.

It's part of the game development and its really appreciated that they made that number of new designs.
I wish this was the standard for every gen, between 100-150 new pokemon per gen.

Are you kidding? It gives its own essence to the games, as some anon said its better than having a new region that focus on the same forced pokemon like Charizard, Lucario,etc.

Trends are trends but most generations don't have to counterparts to almost every pokémon in the Kanto dex.
Pikaclones tend to be pretty forced though. I don't know why they even bother anymore.
