>>36637658IMO making Claire likeable was actually a bad move. Her entire character was about being a childish, petty brat who didn't deserve her job. You'd think the eighth Gym Leader would be the coolest one, and even actual criminal Giovanni had some honor and grace, but instead you're treated to someone pathetic. Clair's whole character was to be a swerve on expectations, to show that sometimes people who aren't explicitly villains can give you a wrongful hard time. Even her design somewhat ties into this, as her hair color and style make her look pretty old but she acts like a kid. A Claire who's actually mature and respectable basically isn't Claire at all. She's the nepotistic prick to Lance's genuinely humble and deserving champion.
