Regardless of whether you like them or not you must admit the linear region is objectively bad (other regions have that too, but not to the level that unova has) and it started the incredible handholding, the kanto pandering(entire dex and design philosophy is a callback to kanto) and the unending cutscenes.
Also the sprites look really bad.
