That's not particularly rare, Snoy and Microsoft also charge for online(and IIRC charge more? I don't use their consoles so I don't know for sure). Nintendo charging for online is just them catching up to their competitors, though it's still shit. As for only trading with people on your friends list, the mantra for LGPE seems to be to undo as many of the advances Pokemon made since it came out of Tajiri's mind as they could possibly get away with.

At least it's not like you actually need it at all, this is literally just to make it look "fancy" while sitting and charging. You can charge it easily just by plugging a normal ISB-C cord into the back of it, it's not it's like a propriety charger.
