I wanted to hate these games and honestly thought I would but I just cant.

I'm having a lot of fun just chillin and catching mons and putting dumb, cute outfits on Eevee. Just beat Misty, going pretty slow and being super comfy and using some of my old favorites. The Pokemon in the overworld make the game feel so much more alive and cool. Theyre so cute and charming .Hoping they keep that in Gen8

And the autistic veteran in me is having fun making chains for shinies and mons with good IVs to transfer for breeding stock later.

All the people shtting on the games (and i was one until they came out and I started enjoying myself) just try it out for yourself.

try chaining a 1 or 4 percent spawn rate for a pokemon of a specific gender, I somehow ran into males for an hour straight even though Dratini is a 50/50 ratio pokemon, still caught some of them because they were weird sizes, one of the Dragonairs was eight feet long

The 3DS games felt overdesigned for the most part. Feature creep set in at the expense of actually fleshing out the game world. Ironically, LGPE were decried for missing so many extraneous features that XY and SM had yet is vastly more enjoyable to play.

It is better than gen 7 but that's not hard, all they had to do was not fuck up colossally. Gen 7 wasn't even a pokemon game. It doesn't even have Gyms. I hope that shit gets retconned out of existence because they are a total fuck up.

I never said everything they do is fine at all, I still don't like the needless removal of items and abilities and i think the catching mechanics needs tweaks along with a few other nitpicks (day/night, hard mode, etc). Those are really legit reasons to criticize the game

But the games are really FUN and it kinda makes up for some of the missing features that i pray they add back in the new games and gives Pokemon depth for more hardcore and older fans

I thought LGPE would be shit but actually playing them firsthand gives me back a lot of the hope i lost in the series during Gen6/7 and i have hope Gen8 will be decent games

I want to play it because I love seeing pokemon in the overworld and chaining for shinies is the kind of thing I like but I'm sick of kanto pandering and I hate a lot of decisions made in the game such 151 pokemon only, no abilities, no held items, being forced to use the motion catching mechanic, plastic looking pokemon etc and I don't want to show support for those things
also the fact that you can only surf on 2 pokemon when gen 1 is full of water types is the most low effort thing ever. they could have at least made blastoise surfable.

I was fairly positive about this game until i reached Cerulean Cave. Its literally 2 rooms. There is no maze anymore. You take the first stair and then a second one to the very top left corner of the room and thats pretty much it.

The pokeball isn't really any better or worse than single joycon. I find the game controls a lot better in handheld mode regardless. That said, the pokeball is pretty cool as a novelty. It shakes with HD rumble when capturing, the light flashes white with each "tick" and it either locks with a green light or fails with a red one. It also plays all 151 Pokemon cries if you put one in it, and plays the pokecenter jingle when you plug the charger in. Not a necessary thing at all but better than most gimmick controllers. One thing that sucks is it doesn't have a home button so you can't exit out to the Switch menu unless you use another controller or switch to handheld.

So yes, you're stuck with Porygon. You could just move to another route with Vulpix and wait there instead, though.

My shiny Pidgey took 81 chain and Nidoran (F) 33 so this is ultimate suffering.

Still though, in Alpha Sapphire it took me 455 chain to get a shiny Zigzagoon so I’ll hold out. Just nervous about fleeing pokemon in this one, seems random as shit

How do I into soft-resetting for Switch? Just got one, and when I hit the power button it just goes to sleep and re-opens where I left off without ever turning off. You can just close the game and re-open it if you want to see the title screen, Switch games don't have a soft reset.
To turn off the Switch you have to press the power button and hold it for a few seconds. A menu will pop up asking you if you wanna turn it off or put it in sleep mode.

It's just set before going up to Route 1 and talking to Oak. You just save before that and just have to repeat the scenes from that to picking Eevee in the lab.

I'm enjoying it as well. I had very mixed feelings going into it but once I started it started to grow on me. I've ran through Kanto 100 times so I actually like the different capture mechanic since it changes the gameplay a little bit. I'm also a huge sucker for Pokemon following the trainer and the fact that you can ride some of them made it even better for me. I've never really cared for IVs and all that but since it's so easy to check and easy to max out my OCD flares up and now my favorite Pokemon have to be perfect and/or shiny. I really like the Pokemon being present in the overworld. If I need to run through an area and don't want to capture anything I can do that. If I want to capture specific Pokemon I can do that. I think it's a huge improvement over random encounters and it's even a bit more immersive.
I have mixed emotions about the removal of the PC. I can see why they changed it as the main focus in the game is capturing lots of Pokemon, so being able to check what you have on the fly makes sense. I think a better system is being able to see your PC from anywhere but can only access it via Pokemon Centers
I don't think the game is worth $60 though. $30 I think is fair. Good thing I didn't buy it

Console mode only, requires two joy cons.
Shake other joy-con and they join as the other gender of the skin colour you chose. They turn every battle into a double battle where you have two out and the opponent gets jack shit, a total advantage. Combos don't affect Scyther's rarity, since it's not a special encounter, but Chansey is so that's why you're plagued with them.
