Even worse, the moment you get too close to any NPC or object the Pokemon flies back into the ball, then flies back out when it has room again. This is the worst form of following Pokemon yet. Don't bring this shit back until you fix this.

Following Pokemon is only suited to sprites imo. The models bounce in and out of the game whenever they clip into the environment and it's super annoying. The sprites all took up the same amount of space and were non disruptive.
Better features have been removed with worse reasoning. This was their explanation for why ORAS didn't have Challenge mode, and why future titles likely won't either.

Nah following Pokemon is decent. It should be a lot easier to implement now that we're at 3D models too.
I could understand them not wanting to create separate walking sprites for every Pokemon in the GB/GBA/DS eras - if they only needed the battle sprites - but if the models are there anyway then I dont see the harm in adding some follow animations. Theres so many Pokemon with similar body types and we already know they aren't above reusing the same animations.
It also opens up interactions between the pokemon and the world like in HGSS but it could be expanded upon. Certain regional mons interacting with different areas and triggering quests like the regi's.
It would be nice to see your pokemon as part of the journey instead of from the 10 different camera angles it squeezes in before each turn passes.

Let's be honest, following Pokemon is so not coming back
I hate LGBT but they actually did put some effort into following Pokemon, a lot of the animations are unique to the Pokemon (Golem turning into a ball and rolling, buddy Pokemon sharing a pouch with lil' Kangaskhan)
To achieve this with 800+ Pokemon isn't something I can imagine GF doing with their track record.
To expect following Pokemon in Gen 8 is only setting yourself up for disappointment, yet again.

No they didn't. Only 18 /152 are ridable, some reuse animations, and most keep your partner Pokemon magically glued to your head instead of doing something fun with them. They didn't put any effort into it at all.

Exactly what I was gonna say.

They've roadmapped this feature and the Switch is powerful enough to handle it.
Creatures Inc when they aren't developing games like PokéPark and Detective Pikachu, primarily do modelling and animation that is featured in the 3DS and mobile games.

It's clear that they intended for this to be a mainstay feature in gen 8. Let's Go is the first Pokémon game where ANY Pokémon can feature in the overworld, with odd exceptions like Gyarados not being on land, but on water.

It's actually pretty fucking cool entering a Go Park with a bunch of imported Pokémon all hanging about together, it's uplifting.

Yeah, fair point that is a discrepancy. If you set Gyarados as your out of Poké Ball buddy, you don't see it until you go surfing.

He's still the director of the current game, and the game will continue on until the next one.

US/UM are still a thing and should still go on, but LGPE will be the focus of more mystery gift events.
