In gen 7 it's mostly fine because they balanced the EXP curve. In gen 6 it sucked because it made it tedious to level up weaker pokemon specifically without overleveling the fuck out of your entire party. Bad design.

As long as you can turn it off I don't see the issue with it. I was never overleveled in XY. I played the game normally with my one team and the thing off, and sometimes if I felt I was underleved, I turned it on, grinded a bit then turn it off again and carried on. It was useful.

*Optional* extra content is never a bad thing. It's when they oblige you to use it that becomes a problem. I like the movies in BW2 for example, but I agree with the anons that mentioned how annoying it was that they make you try one during the story with no option to skip it.

yes because sometimes I would randomly encounter shinies or when I got Pokerus and had no idea what it was

It's unbalanced.If you use it the whole game your going to be 10+ levles above everyone. If you don't you'll be super underleved while any mon you catch past it will be noticable underleved

playing through the game normally, but using all your pokemon normally isnt grinding. designing a team around them all being useful and distributing the exp was part of the fun. No pokemon single player ever required grinding. The only things that did were designed with the effort::reward in mind ie- magicarp, abra, late game dragons.

Completely solved the problem with grinding, but completely destroyed the difficulty curve of the early game and mid game of X/Y, OR/AS, S/M, & US/UM.
This can be complelty avoided if they just gived the old Exp Share from Gens II-V and afther the Sixth badge 3/4 of the main story they umpgrade your Exp Share to the EXP.ALL that it is today.
