IVs have been a thing since day one and GameFreak won't ever let them go no matter how inherently flawed they are because they need a way to show that every Pokemon is unique.
Besides, they most likely still think that everyone thinks it's some kind of "crazy magic" that Billy's Rattata has a higher attack than Cindy's Rattata despite them being the same level, same gender and same nature.

GameFreak sure pulled one hell of a ruse on us, spending a whole 18-19 years or so making fake Pokemon just so they could say "haha, gotcha!" by finally introducing ACTUAL REAL Pokemon, Meltan and Melmetal, bringing this Franchise's 21 years of having 151 Pokemon up to a spectacular total of 153!
Can't believe those jokers, dedicating so much time and effort on making all those fake Pokemon just because they felt like it!

Gen 1 is the basis of the game. So it makes sense to focus on gen 1 pokemon.

LGPE isn't a Spinoff.
It may look like a Spinoff, it may feel like a Spinoff and it may play like a Spinoff, but it isn't.
It's officially acknowledged and labelled as a Mainline Title by GameFreak, Nintendo, Creatures, The Pokemon Company and all other official sources.
Case in point, note how LGPE is along with typical Pokemon games rather than Spinoffs on the official Japanese website.

they already have the animations and models in-game. Even FRLG have been iterative on the pokedex. There is no reason why more doesn't improve the game. You literally have more options for team building.

Which might mean something, if they hadn't started calling their OTHER series Core (even going as far as to explicitly separate LGEP and Pokémon 2019's Core games (and further sticking a pin in that ballon, by equating Pokémon 2019 as being similar to SM/XY/all their previous work.
When even Game Freak are calling it something that's not the same as their ACTUAL mainline games, it can only be a spin-off (especially, as you rightly pointed out, it uses mechanics inspired by an actual Spin-off game already...)

They all fit in the Pokemon universe. There isn't a single pokemon that looks out of place given its region, lore, and inspiration. Even Klefki has a reason for being a living keychain and fits into Pokemon's style.

They aren’t creating 200+ Pokemon out of thin air, which is where “More doesn’t always mean better” mentality would work since making Pokemon takes time that could be used for other Pokemon or other features (something LGPE lacks entirely).

It's clear as day that gamefreak wants to either replace the current "Core" games with these new ones or they want to slow down "Core" games and focus more on "mainline" games (IE LG). The only reason this is in so much question is because gamefreak wants to toe the line between "Fuck our fans" and "We still need you".

They basically are going to decide where to go completely based off how well these two games sell in comparison to each other. How could this possibly go well for older fans? Even in the scenario where both co-exist, the already shit tier effort they put into "Core" games is going to get even worse.
