This game is objectively bad. If you have made positive threads and/or posts about this game, you are a paid shill. This game is almost universally bad in every conceivable category and I know for a fact TPCi has paid a large majority of people to promote this shitfest on this board and every other noteworthy Pokemon community.

Pokemon games have always done well, the only one that hasn’t in recent times is Pokken Tournament DX and that partial GO die-off after the hype weared off.

The Pokemon fanbase is affected by two cancers: one that attacks the sereis whenever it tries something new and another that blinbly laps up anything the Pokemon logo is slapped on and violently defends any controversial choices GF makes from ANY form of criticism. Don’t be either of those and you should be good.

I really enjoyed the game. It has a lot of little nods to the anime, manga and earlier games in the series throughout it. (Nidorino vs Gengar poster in your room as an example.) The game was incredibly easy-- even for a pokemon game. It would have been nice to have, perhaps, the ability to select a higher difficulty.

I'm still not a massive fan of the Pokemon Go capture style, but I don't absolutely hate it, either. So long as it doesn't bleed over into the actual mainline games I don't care of Let's Go progresses beyond it with, say, Let's Go Togepi and so on, so forth. It's definitely an enjoyable little experience while we wait for the next gen.

I think my biggest issues with the game is just the region it takes place in. Besides some minor changes to the story (Lorelei appearing early on -- fucking love Lorelei ) it's the same old story that's been retold multiple times. The cut scenes, however, were cute and I look forward to what all they'll do in Gen 8.

Silph Co / the rocket hideout is still fucking boring as fuck. Fuck protect/minimize Muk. I just don't personally enjoy going from Team Rocket's Hideout to doing Silph Co. Every time they remake Kanto I dread that portion of the game.

I'd like to see following pokemon, overworld pokemon, and trainer customization in Gen 8 -- but I'm fairly certain we'd be getting customization anyway.

Not having to worry about abilities makes me wish I had access to an Archeops, though.

I'd honestly give the game a 7.5/ or 8/10. Don't think it's worth the $60 price point, but definitely would be for $40.

By what metric?
Content? Slashed severely. Games made over 10 years ago have more content as well as being somewhat unique.
Mechanics? Gutted. Almost everything that gave the game an ounce of depth is gone.
Visuals? Terrible. Not only is the chibi thing unacceptable after gen 7 moved on from it but there's a huge disconnect between the visual style of the pokemon and the characters themselves.
Pokemon viability? Ruined. It's a game of whoever sets up rocks first because there's no way to remove them making Aerodactyl a necessity on almost teams along with the heaviest and fastest hitters in the game plus chansey. No abilities also ruined several pokemon especially the starter megas.

So how exactly is it good?

It's not a safe space for me, it's more a problem that the franchise is going into rot. A great example is how Insomniac used to really pump out a good few games and then get tired and move to a new IP, but the PS3 games for Ratchet and Clank are all fine enough as games but don't really carry the same charm. There's no 'new' excitement in there.

If GF made something new instead of taking their tired work on Pokemon out over and over again we'd get something better from them and because Pokemon would go down in popularity it would allow fan work to have a real chance.

It's similar to how I like the job system found in FFV, but the franchise is still strong. That makes it harder to get that same job system into a different fan project.

They're equip items, they still have relevance ingame. Things like Amulet Coin, EXP Share *When it was still a hold item* Berries. You have no ground to call it pointless. They're basically equipment in JRPGs.

Likewise with abilities, they gave far more life to pokemon that were not that great before, no one would even bat an eye at Dunsparce without Serene grace for example.

I can beat Mega Man X2 with the buster only and no upgrades, doesn't mean the extra weapons/heart tanks/subtanks/armor upgrades are useless. You definitely can in many JRPGS, take it from someone who has played JRPGS for 25 years.

Fuck battle facilities, those are solo competitive play light. I don't find those fun and it's not a winning argument.

Held items allow you to have fun giving your pokemon new ways to confront a situation, I like to use them to increase damage of type coverage moves that don't benefit from STAB. It's an extra layer of customizability which I find fun.

SHifting the goalposts again I see, it's more for experts to do it without upgrading equipment. Not everyone CAN do it, it gets to the point where it's more about skill the weaker equipment you have.

Hold items make the game much better just by being around, it's helped many pokemon and made them more useful overall ingame and competitively

It removes the entire fucking point of why you get your starter in the first place and why you set off on a journey.

You get your starter to defend you from these wild animals that will attack you if you don't have another Pokemon under your command to defend yourself with. Battling them helps you find out what they do, what their types are, and on top of that, you can optionally catch them and always have a chance to instead of them just sitting there and letting you throw balls at them until they're caught or until they decide to flee for no reason.

This game ruins the point and Masuda forgot the point and everyone that likes this game is making this problem worse. Congratulations.

When you're given a shit crop of spawns, you're either forced to wait until something despawns (unless you've a lure up) or to encounter/run to spawn a new 'mon in. In those events, I'd rather get a RE than have to wait or encounter something I may not want to go near (again, at least if it's spat out at me randomly it's better than having to pick one of 4 pidgey just to roll the dice on the spawns again).

You don't know much about Gamefreak do you. Tajiri and Sugi had started the company with Masuda joining when they became a gaming company. Tajiri himself heavily studied game design and programming long before they had even thought of pokemon.
And if you look at several of their games predating pokemon you'll see several other key names.

Yeah and that was clearly an empty statement because it hasn't changed beyond some physics on the fur and such. I think they still even have the same good and bad zones.
The only reason anyone would think its an improvement is if they haven't used Amie or even Refresh with amie being the better version of the three if just for the additional mini games.

I like the fact they removed the tedious aspects of the game like wild battles and grinding. Not to mention breeding and the strange evolution requirements. I can focus on completing a manageable Pokédex and do that with my gf on coop.

Wild battles were removed sure but they weren't tedious by any means. The encounters in LGPE now are tedious unless you immediately run from them which leads us to the second part.
Instead of decreasing the grind they doubled down on it with candies requiring the capture of multiples of a species so you have to deal with those slow encounters if you want to improve your pokemon. So where in a game like XY or ORAS would have an easy method like hordes that could have your pokemon fully trained in about five minutes no such thing exists in LGPE. Exp grinding is also much slower than restaurants and bases.

This game is lazy. Its visuals are lazy, the animations are lazy, the story is lazy, the world design is lazy. Everything about it is halfassed, the "combat", the balancing, the "just slap a new texture on it" visual changes.

I imported a shiny Zapdos from GO. Spent the 10k to nature-lock it then re-caught it in Let’s Go. Took me about 3.5 hours to farm the 5/6 candy types I needed and using Chansey farming I expect leveling it from 63-100 will take an hour. Combined with the guarantee of a Gold Bottle Cap daily I now will have a perfect, maxed, shiny after about 5 hours investment. Doesn’t feel that bad to me desu.

Did it ever occur to you that's because you haven't played any other games? Not to mention you had to grind in order to get that Zapdos in Go to begin with. If I remember right shiny ones were only in raids so you had to wait for other people to join you there as well as well as a team in Go to do the raid itself.

Anyway, where it would take you to 3 hours to grind candies in LGPE previous games like ORAS and XY allows you to do multiple teams in half the time or less.

Now take Chansey, evolve it and multiply it by 3, make them level 100 and slap on the exp o-power.
That's the majesty of blissey bases.
And because of the level 50 online restriction there's no need to get them to level 100 though that wouldn't be much of a problem.

Yeah.
One single pokemon. In five hours + the days/months etc spent in Go.
While you could make 30 in previous games in that time.

To start the only games I skipped were gen5 and USUM.

Shiny Zapdos was only available in raids. A bunch of friends and myself went hard on a 3 hour event day and one of them got 4 shinies. I traded for one to put in Let’s Go. The only reason it takes so long for Zapdos candy is because you can’t chain him.

Your bit about old exp farming is news to me since I’ve almost never played the games past initial completion. I’m an MMO fan though so that almost sounds boring.

Assuming you’re not inflating your numbers then yeah, LGPE is horrible from an efficiency stand point but like I said before it doesn’t seem too bad to me.
