ITT: frustration stories

Recently started replaying Pokemon White and was trying to catch a Throh before the second gym. He broke through 25+ pokeballs (made me use them all), 5 great balls, 3 heal balls, and then I finally caught him in a premier ball. Jesus Christ I thought I ran into some kind of bug, because his catch rate is generous.

Who the hell says that?

Unova was the start of dumbing shit down and removing existing shit, not the start of prevalent story. That started when Masuda took over AKA Gen 3.

People just can't make their minds which unwelcome trend was started with gen 5 for the same of making all other gens look slightly better. But I'm pretty confident all bad design choices on Gamefreak's behalf can be traced back to gen 4.

I had nothing that could have taken that Focus Punch. I realised what was happening but after the first DT I couldn't safely switch in case he went for FP. Poor Girafarig.

I had a "fuck you" strategy in the early days of XY competitive where I'd have Girafarig use Thunder Wave and then Stomp-flinch enemies to death. Girafarig earned more than its fair share of rage quits back then.

They also had NPCs playing instruments you could talk to change music in an area, unique themes for each gym, and different music for a gym leader's last pokemon. Gen V had an absolute kino OST for both sets of games.

I think those things were probably hard to recognize in Gen 5 because you're hardly ever in one area from one season to the next, so you don't have much of a point of reference when things changed. I do remember the musicians you could talk to, but those changes were instantaneous.

I was really disappointed at how easy it was to catch Yvetal in Y. The story kind of just happened, and it has a catch rate of 45. Jesus I was disappointed, especially after that build up of fighting multiple team flare members. I caught it on the first pokeball.

I just finished getting all of the roamers in platinum. Fuck this shit. I spent hours just tweaking on a loading zone, waiting for them to land on the right route.
They should jump to a route and stay there until you find it and it runs again.

Yes, I finished it by the end of that month. Slowking was one of the last I needed from Johto, along with the other trade evolutions. Also caught the Sinnoh honey tree mons in HG's headbutt trees because fuck that RNG. Each subsequent generation's part of the living dex was finished within a month of the game's release, as well (minus events, of course), except for SM, where I decided not to Bank so I caught all the Alola Dex mons fresh.

I'm in the same boat. Meltans keep eating up all my goddamn pinaps and then keep breaking out of pokeballs, it's the worst. I almost even ran out of pokeballs because this one just kept constantly attacking, and after catching it turns out it ended up having shit IVs anyway. It was so satisfying grinding that little fucker up into candy. Got my haul of 10 today but only 6 of them got double candy. I'm only at 90 candies and I didn't get a chance to complete the Meltan quest while spawns were helpful for it due to being so busy this month with work and prepping for Thanksgiving. This sucks.

400 candy road to Melmetal in Pokemon Go. No other way to evolve Meltan, that's it's gimmick; can't evolve it in Let's Go. You get a box with a timer that only opens once every week if you transfer 1 pokemon from Go to Let's Go. After opening it, you only get 30 minutes to spawn anywhere between 7 to 10 Meltans to catch. Then the box closes again and you have to wait another week to do it all over again.

Additionally, normally you can walk for candies depending on the pokemon but Meltan in particular requires 20km of walking just for 1 damn candy. Absolute worst evolving mythic gimmick ever. Most people who have a Melmetal at this point are hackers.

The worst part about this is that the PWT should have given a Ribbon. Your mon can battle in all facilities starting Gen 3 and obtain a cool Ribbon from it, except from the coolest facility.

I went trough the trouble of catching a Beldum in a Beast Ball. It took me a week. It was the worst thing I have ever done to myself, but seeing my metagross pop out of a Beast Ball is so worth it. And no. it's not impossible. I got accused of hacking when telling this to people once. Heavy Ball is actually impossible(I dunno if they changed that yet) Beast Ball is just...insanely difficult.

The musical plays too differently from contests, it feels more like a new type of minigame. Contests in Hoenn and Sinnoh had stuff in common like the whole pokéblock poffin parallel, and the underground was basically where the secret base concept was moved to. The musical didn't really share much with contests, and seemed more like a dress-up minigame than much else.
