I'm pretty sure the next mainline game is going to be on Switch, but should they release it for both Switch and 3DS, will it only be playable on the new3DS?

I can't imagine that the new3DS has much more powerful hardware or higher specs than the original 3DS, but I can imagine Nintendo forcing people to either buy a new3DS/2DS or a Switch to play Gen 8.
