>>37188017The problem I've always had with Game Freak is that they have no clue when it comes to properly balancing their games. While I'll give Gen 1 a pass because it was such a clusterfuck of a development, everything since then was no excuse.
Like, because Psychic was so OP in Gen 1, but Bug and Ghost existed to keep it in check... the solution in Gen 2 should be to simply add in new Ghost and Bug moves and Pokémon with OP stats, right? lol nope, GF's solution was to create a whole new type. The same with Dragon later on; they could've just added some major OP Ice-type Pokémon and moves, but they decided to make Fairy-type instead.
Another problem is that there is a HUUUUGE imbalance between the number of Pokémon of a certain type. Like I'd love to see more Dark, Ghost, Dragon, Ice, and Steel types, but lol NOPE! WE NEED MORE MORE MORE Water, Normal, and Grass types! In fact, at least by Gen 5, there were more Water and Normal Pokémon than Dragon, Ghost, Ice, Dark, Steel, and Fighting Pokémon combined. The least GF could do is even out the numbers a bit more!
So yeah, if Gen 2 sucked for any reason, it's not because it make Kanto like 7.5% smaller, but because it's solutions for Gen 1's type imbalances only maintained that imbalance, as well as set a trend for continued imbalance for the next five gens. I doubt Gen 8 will be any more balanced either.
