Real talk. Let's say the Gen 8 fire starter is a Rabbit or Snake. Something that undeniably fits into the purposed zodiac theme, would you deniers finally admit that there is in fact a theme? That it's not just a coincidence?
Even ignoring Cyndaquil and Fennekin because they can be argued either way, that still leaves FIVE gens where they do fit the zodiac. Personally, I think that's too many for it to be a coincidence.
