He somehow has been journeying and catching Pokemon for years, especially due to Agatha's commentary and it's pretty implied, and was the original idea that Prof. Oak was the Champion, or a previous Champion, which stands to reason that Agatha never beat him and likely still hasn't despite her E4 status.
Yet not once, not once in his completion of the Pokedex during its build cycle did he pre-program Pokemon he had already caught and categorized, let alone any of the starters he even hands you, or anything surrounding Pallet Town in any way. Now you may want to argue that, "Hey, he wants to player to have a grand journey and find them themselves." and while that may be true, Oak's main goal is completing it, because he's a Professor, he wants an accurate report, you are just his lab rat, so there is no reason the thing isn't already pre-programmed for categorizing and science purposes.
Not only that, he somehow in his entire history, and this goes for largely every Day Care Couple, all Professors, etc. has never seen a Pokemon being born or was even aware that eggs were a thing in the first place, which is a mind blowingly stupid decision by GF to tell the story in that way to explain new mechanics.
And the same could be said for the new types, now I will grant this one as science slowly advancing and recategorizing things and elements as its done in real life, so that's fair.
But the fact that Oak is so incompetent at literally all of these things and generally doesn't do much beyond talk on a radioshow about his psychic knowledge of swarms and hang out in his lab. He's pathetic, I love him to death, but pathetic.
